Extended-Range Millimeter Wave Booster Modules for High Speed 5G and SATCOM Applications

Micro Mobio Corporation, a global leader in designs, development and supply of a broad range of RF MMIC’s solutions, introduced a family of extended-range millimeter wave (mmWave) booster modules for high speed 5G and SATCOM applications. mmPA4000 H-Series, mmPA4000 E-Series and mmFE4000 E-Series (Fig. 1) were design to overcome significantly higher path losses of high frequency signals, extending the maximum data rate range of the mmWave cells.

As the wireless service providers (WSP) aim to achieve seamless fiber-like user experience, the radio access network (RAN) equipment is pushed to the limits. mmWave presents tremendous opportunity, but it comes with challenges. The two of key heralds in frequency range 2 (FR2) to overcome are poor signal propagation and small distance. In order for WSP’s to enhance coverage and performance, operators must deploy large number of small cells, which drives up the cost of mmWave networks. By building on 30 years of experience in high frequency RF, Micro Mobio's new mmWave booster modules were designed to challenge old ideas about range and propagations of high frequency signals. The mmPA4000 H-Series, mmPA4000 E-Series and mmFE4000 E-Series modules boost mmWave signals to extend the coverage by order of magnitude. (Fig. 2). These mmWave booster modules reduce the RAN equipment size and cost, while unleashing the full potential of 5G high frequencies. Due to their miniature size and efficiency, the booster modules can be easily embedded into beam steering antenna arrays, reducing the quantity of array elements and the number of cell sites.

mmPA4000 H-Series, mmPA4000 E-Series and mmFE4000 E-Series incorporate patented ExtremeCruise® Technology, ultra-efficient boosters, impedance matching networks, bias controllers, LNA’s, switches and power sensors to further simplify the design and speed up time-to-market. Low power consumption gives these booster modules versatility across different platforms, ranging from user equipments to infrastructure, making them ideal for both up-link (UL) and down-link (DL) applications.
